Character Name; Bartemius Crouch junior
Canon; Harry Potter http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
Canon Point; From the end of the fourth book, shortly before being given the Dementor’s kiss and losing his soul.
Age; 33 years old
House; Loki – In the very darkest sense, Barty shows many trickster traits. For one thing he is undeniably – and very successfully – manipulative. The quote ‘Decent people are so easy to manipulate.’ shows that he is very aware of this talent to boot. Obviously his life hasn’t given him much to joke about, but a very dark sense of humor does show itself in instances like turning Draco Malfoy into a ferret and confronting Neville with the very curse that cost his parents their sanity, a torture that Barty himself took part in.
Power; Telepathy
Personality; His relationship to his parents defines a lot of Barty’s personality. His father was at the same time overbearing and largely absent, while his mother comes across as loving, but emotionally and physically frail. Barty is very intelligent and observant, two things that also formed his personality from an early age on. He saw his father put on the front of the family man for his political gain, but never have time to actually devote to his family. At the same time, his mother seemed weak by comparison, trying to give Barty all her love and remaining a devoted wife to her husband.
Barty seems to despise what he conceives as weakness as well as just about everything he associates with his father, from his politics to his personality. It isn’t clear what exactly his father’s view of him was, but at the very least Barty himself feels unloved and unappreciated by him. Although there was undoubtedly more to his actions than just to go against his father, it is notable that Barty did exactly what his father would disapprove of the most in becoming a Death Eater.
While Barty has suffered a lot from an already fragile psyche and his time spent in Azkaban and under his father’s watch and curse, he is still able to put up the front of someone he can only have known through observation well enough to fool even close friends, some of which themselves of a very keen intellect. This goes to show that he can act very well and probably put up much of any front he chooses to, as long as he has enough motivation not to break character.
His strongest motivation is without a doubt the service to his Lord Voldemort. Barty regards himself as being among Voldemort’s most faithful servants, being part of a group that went out to look for him after he vanished and ended up in Azkaban. Following his service to his Lord during the Triwizard Tournament, ultimately culminating in delivering Harry to Voldemort and thus enabling his return, he thinks of himself as the most faithful. One could definitely argue that he is the single most effective Death Eater in the series that’s not secretly a spy, so that assumption isn’t completely unfounded. He is devoted to the Dark Lord, bears the Dark Mark with pride and despises anyone who denied being in his service willingly after the war or changed sides. Indeed, judging by his actions and his own words, he seems to hate cowards and traitors more than anyone else, while he does respect bravery, much the way Voldemort himself values it.
It seems that in many ways he models himself after his Lord, which becomes even more obvious when he draws parallels between them. While a lot of this does without a doubt further his delusions and crazed loyalty, projecting his own issues to heavily upon whatever actual relationship there is between him and Voldemort, it is true that there are similarities. Both have been brilliant students and both take pride and show skill in manipulating those around them as well as a lot of acting talent. Voldemort understood very well how to draw on these similarities to further ensure Barty’s unquestioned loyalty to him.
As I’ve already mentioned when choosing his God House, Barty has a sense of humor. It’s just a very dark, very twisted and sadistic sense of humor. Let’s just say, you don’t want him thinking you’re funny. You really don’t.

Network Sample; [The video flickers on to show Barty leaning forward in a chair, perhaps just a bit closer to the screen than would be necessary.]
With what we're tasked with here, I've thought a lot about what it takes to reach a goal, to realize a vision, and what we might be lacking here. Perhaps there is a world out there where this doesn't hold true, feel free to tell me if yours is the exception, but from all my studies, I've learned that there is nothing that helps unite people more than a strong leader. Someone with a grasp of what needs doing and the determination to see it through.
Under such a person, even the smallest can prove useful. All it needs is loyalty and the will to follow as needed.
[He touches the tip of his tongue to the corner of his mouth and moves closer still, something too intense, something a bit off in his eyes, but his voice is calm.]
If you knew someone like that, would you be faithful?
